Alanya castle is a well preserved Seljuk castle built on top of a 250 feet high promontory. Its top is encircled by huge defensive walls with 150 bastions including the red tower. An ancient ship building yard can be seen at the foot of the castle. The town has fine museums with a world class collection of sculptures, prehistoric and ethnographic exhibits fro Mediterranean Turkey.Aspendos and Side are almost one hours drive from Alanya. Aspendos proudly boasts what is probably the finest surviving amphitheatre with seating for 15,000 people built around 100AD. Along with other features you will find a 3rd centaury AD bath house and gymnasium. For the lovers of culture it is a must. During the summer there are weekly live international performances of ballet, opera and concerts.
